Leadership

I had the chance to develop my leadership skills while assisting a Ugandan community to renovate their school campus. I was tasked with leading a team of peers and children to clean, repair, and repaint the schoolhouses on campus in the most efficient way. I was able to successfully lead my team, and have applied the skills I learned there whenever I am placed into another leadership role.
Problem–solving skills
Working in an area that is often overlooked and underfunded, there are many times when I need to devise a quick and effective solution when the tools are not available to me. This also applies to interacting with the residents at my workplace. The care aids are often very busy, so occasionally I need to take care of the resident’s needs before I can continue with my work.
Loyalty

Performing to the best of my abilities for a job, and getting the work done no matter what circumstances, has gained me a place of respect in most of my jobs thus far. If needed I come to work early and leave late, even though my current job isn’t related to my future career. If the institution I’m a part of respects me, I will do whatever it takes to do my job well and bring whatever improvements I can along with me.
Making connections
A skill I’ve always had is easily being able to make connections between what I’m learning, and what I already know. This helps me apply what I’ve heard in class to my own life. It also helps me visualize examples of different theories or methods I’m learning, in turn helping me remember them.
